Leading industry expert Dave Hunter has joined Leighs Construction as the company’s General Manager Construction.
Mr Hunter is well known and respected in the construction industry for being at the forefront of technical innovations, and for developing methodologies and finding solutions to the challenges of complex projects.
In 1994, Mr Hunter returned from three years overseas to manage construction of Auckland’s Sky Tower, one of the most challenging projects ever delivered in New Zealand, and at that time the tallest tower in the Southern Hemisphere. More recently, he was project director of the New Zealand International Convention Centre in central Auckland. He is at the forefront of Building Information Modelling (BIM), sitting on the BIM Acceleration Committee, a nationwide alliance of industry and government, established in 2014 to coordinate efforts to increase the use of BIM in New Zealand
“We’re extremely excited to have Dave on board and imparting his knowledge and skills with our teams in this key leadership role. Dave’s well known for his technical troubleshooting abilities. As Leighs grows as a tier one construction company, we are committed to keeping abreast of the new innovations and technologies that make our builds even better, more intelligent, and increasingly user friendly. These are exciting times, and Dave will be playing a pivotal role in our executive team moving forward,” says Leighs.
Hunter commenced his role with Leighs on 1st March, and is based in the company’s Auckland office.
“Leighs has certainly made its mark in Auckland, and I’m thrilled to be joining the team. I’ll be working with a national focus, and am also looking forward to seeing all the fantastic work Leighs is doing in Christchurch rebuild and Dunedin.
Like most sectors, construction has evolved and changed immensely since I first started out more than three decades ago as a project engineer. It’s very evident by the way in which Leighs operates that they are a company embracing new technologies and methods of construction, which is what is needed to keep ahead in today’s world,” says Hunter.
