Leighs Cockram JV scoops National Category Health win for Burwood Hospital Redevelopment15 May 2017
The Leighs Cockram JV team were thrilled when the Burwood Hospital Redevelopment project, part of the largest and most complex hospital building project in the history of New Zealand’s public health service, won the National Category for Health at the 2017 NZ Commercial Project Awards in Auckland on Friday 12th May.
The works were undertaken within the campus of an already busy existing hospital facility, in which the team ensured the continuity of the existing steam, water, waste, power, data and electrical services.
Leighs Construction teamed up with Australian-based Cockram Construction to deliver the projects as Leighs Cockram JV Ltd. The company was formed specifically to tender the project, and was shortlisted because of its local and overseas experience and reputation for delivering high quality, large-scale building projects.
The building is home to the latest advances in aged health care, providing patients and staff with the technology and environment required for ensuring the highest level of care is provided now and into the future. Included in the 32,000m2 project are three, three-storey ward blocks that provide accommodation for up to 230 patients; clinical support services such as radiology and pharmacy; an outpatient clinic that will cater for about 80,000 people each year; and general service spaces such as kitchen, plant room and loading areas.
Leighs Cockram JV is presently delivering the University of Otago Dental School redevelopment, and is preferred ECI contractor for the Metro Sports Facility in Christchurch.
